Now that cell phones are virtually second nature, many companies have found that there is quite a bit of money to be made with ringtone sales. However, paying a price for a sound file can seem somewhat pointless and quite the hassle. Because of this, you might be wondering how you can just create your cell ringtones so that you can avoid paying pesky prices to greedy companies. This is a fool-proof guide to making your own ringtones so that you never have to but them again!

1. Download a Sound Editor

Your first item of business is to find a free sound editor that will allow you to edit sound files in ways where you can clip them down to mere samples and save the edited versions. Many different software titles will allow you to do this, and even some of the paid versions offer trial runs where you can use the software for a specified amount of time.

2. Clip the File

Once you’ve downloaded the software, import the sound file that you want to use as your ringtone and clip it to just a 30 second sample of what you want your ringtone to be. You can also add in some effects such as fade-ins or fade-outs at either ends of the song. Once you’ve created a clip that you like, save it to a location on your computer that you’ll easily be able to find.

3. Transfer the File to Your Ringtones Folder

Using a USB cable, transfer the new file from your computer to your ringtone folder on your phone. If you’re using an iPhone, transfer the ringtone using the iTunes software provided with the phone. This process will entail adding the ringtone to your ringtone library in iTunes and then syncing that library to the one on your phone.

4. Use a Website if the Process is Too Confusing

Sometimes, it can be a bit complicated to flawlessly create and move a ringtone to your phone. If the process fails or you’re experiencing excessive complications, try using a website that is designed to create ringtones for you and send them to your phone. You will usually have to create an account with these types of sites, but afterwards, you can either browse pre-made ringtones by other users or upload your own files and make your own. Never sign up with a website that seems suspicious or requests overly personal information such as your social security number or credit card information. Read the privacy policies as well.
